5 Reasons to have a Late Fall Wedding on Cape Cod

Sunset on Cape CodCape Cod is a wonderful place to have a fall wedding.  I’m a little biased because I had my wedding on the Cape exactly a year ago today and I love where and when I got married.  My husband and I aren’t your typical “cape” folk but when we were looking for wedding venues we wanted something “scenic.”  I personally wanted to look out onto the ocean during our ceremony so what better location than the famous Cape Cod.

When I think of Cape Cod I think of summertime, seersucker suits, and TRAFFIC so it may seem a little strange that we chose to get married on Cape Cod because we love and enjoy the fall, we’re not into the preppy look, and we absolutely hate cape traffic.

So why choose Cape Cod for a wedding in late October?  Well, here are a few of my reasons why the Cape is a great place to have a late-fall wedding:

1) No Traffic.  After Columbus Day on Cape Cod it’s really quiet, almost deserted.  Yes, many of the shops are closed but if you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city  Cape Cod is beautiful in the fall.

2) Fall comes later on the Cape.  New England is famous for the fall foliage but people usually think of the Berkshires not the Cape for checking out the colorful leaves.  I have to say, Cape Cod in fall is awesome for foliage.  By late October, Maine, New Hampshire, and Western Massachusetts are already past peak so if you’re planning a late fall wedding and hope the leaves are still on the trees and are the vibrant autumn colors, check out Cape Cod!

3)Happy vendors.  If you’re getting married on the cape there are a lot of vendors that work out of their homes and weddings are part of their small businesses.  The summertime is not only the craziest time on the cape for visitors and traffic but also for wedding vendors.  I found that most of the vendors I worked with were extremely happy my wedding was at the end of the season.  I also found that things were a little cheaper because it was after “peak” wedding season which is typically Memorial day till Columbus day.

4)Reasonable accommodations.  Yes, many of the places to stay on cape are closed for the season but we were able to find great deals for motels that are open year-round.  Another alternative is to rent a house.  Our guests LOVED this option because it allowed my rather large family have a mini family reunion.  If you’re looking to rent a house on the cape I found that VRBO.com had the best listings.

5)Wequassett.  This place is just simply awesome.  Not only does it have the most amazing view on Cape Cod, I didn’t have to worry about a thing on my wedding day because they took care of everything.  If I were to do it all over again I would still get married at the Wequassett. BTW, if you’re planning on getting married at Wequassett and need a photographer please contact me for a special discount. I would LOVE to photograph your Wequassett wedding.
